Devices and aids
Try it before you choose it
Every tool is tried in the office, with your own reading, before you decide. How much a device helps varies from person to person, so we do not promise a result.
Some people use one magnifier for the mail and another for the pill box. Some need a lamp more than a lens. We help you find the small set that fits your day.

What we try
Six kinds of help
Hand and stand magnifiers
For mail, labels and recipes. Some have a light built in. A stand frees both hands.
Small telescopes
Held or worn, for seeing faces across a room, a sign down the street or the television.
Lamps and lighting
Bright, steady light on the page often helps more than a stronger lens. We show you what to look for.
Tinted and filter lenses
Colors of lens that cut glare outdoors and raise contrast indoors.
Magnifying screens
Screens that enlarge print and let you change the colors. We also go through your phone's large-text settings.
Tools for daily tasks
Bold pens, writing guides, large-print clocks and markers for the dials on the stove and the pill box.
After the visit
Learning to use what helps
- 01
Step 1: Bring it home
Take a device home to try, where you will actually use it, if we have it available.
- 02
Step 2: Come back
A follow-up visit to see how it went, and to change what did not work.
- 03
Step 3: Call anytime
If something is not working, call the office. A person answers.
Results vary. Some devices help a great deal for one person and little for another.
Come and try them
Book a low vision exam, or call and ask what to expect.
